We recommend.... (We actually recommend these places personally- we don't participate in link swaps etc for mutual publicity- if you make it onto this list you have the Apple Isle Car Hire stamp of approval!)
Actually factually the Best Asian Restaurant in Australia and the Best Restaurant in Tasmania and right around the corner from Apple Isle Car Hire!(Lucky us!)
The food is wonderful (extensive vegetarian menu), the service is just great and the prices are family friendly! Complete package!
Fish 'N' Chips
30 Seaport Blv Launceston TAS 7250 ph: (03) 6331 1999
Located in the Old Seaport in Launceston, this is a fish and chip shop with a difference- more of a whole experience! The hand cut chips and beautifully prepared fish are served in paper cones and you can eat them whilst gazing over the water at black swans and bobbing boats in the marina. Very family friendly and the staff are friendly and efficient. the chips and potato cakes are the best we have ever eaten. Lucky for us it is an easy walk from Apple Isle Car Hire! (and the CBD)
A must for any car buff, full of classic cars and motorcycles which you may not get a chance to see elsewhere. Displays change from time to time. The gift shop is great and the people are lovely...Apple Isle Car Hire has a couple of pieces displayed in the exhibition. The famous City Park is just across the road too so it makes for a great day out especially if you have kiddies.
City Park
This is a wonderful place to relax and let the children run riot, beautiful flowers, a conservatory, duck ponds, huge trees, plenty of room, safe and expansive playground (and the cutest children's loo you have ever seen!) and a monkey exhibit which is not to be missed. City Park is on
Brisbane St and in the grounds is
City Park Radio- a community run radio station with little radio museum open to the public- I guarantee it is the quaintest radio station building you will ever see (maybe not the strangest.. I used to broadcast from an old an bank vault!) you can listen to it whilst in Launceston on
103.7 fm and see the current weather (and a picture of the building) at www.cityparkradio.com .
The most incredibly delicious gelato we can imagine and a 24hour bakery cafe in Westbury. Seriously, it is worth the (lovely and brief) drive to Westbury just for Andys.
Whilst you are in Westbury make sure you visit: The White House Museum
An amazing collection of toys, bicycles, cars and historically fascinating objects as well as the most amazing dolls house you are likely to see.
Have a look at the website www.whitehousetasmania.comto see what I am rambling about!
Tasmania is full of not to be missed food as well, if you are staying in self contained accomodation I strongly recommend you seek out some fresh Tassie Produce from the many weekend markets and try
Ashgrove non-homogenised milk- it is truly wonderful they also make great cheese www.ashgrovecheese.com.au
